Ignorants are so easy to fool, and I remember this rumor going on and on since 2003. I didn’t believe it then, and I won’t believe it now. If you don’t know what I’m talking about then let me put it this way to you: on August 27 Mars will be so bright and so close to Earth that it will appear like another moon therefore we will have two moons on August 27th. I know this would be the coolest thing ever, but it’s just not going to happen.
Two moons on 27th August has been dubbed as the Mars hoax back in 2003 when an email circulating on the web said that “Mars will look as large and bright as a full moon to the naked eye on August 27, 2003.” The truth is that in 2003 Mars and Earth were very close, the distance between the two planets was of 34,649,589 miles, the closest since September 24, 57,617 B.C. when the distance was of 34,621,560 miles. However this is not enough for Mars to appear as big as the moon therefore we won’t have two moons on August 27.
“Mars August 27″ will not happen even if the emails and many blogs are posting about it. They say that the next year when this will happen is 2287 therefore this is a once in a lifetime opportunity. The viral Mars August 27 says that “At a modest 75-power magnification Mars will look as large as the full moon to the naked eye,” however, this is only a misinterpretation as you will need a telescope with a 75-power magnification to see Mars and that’s no naked eye.
Well, I think that you shouldn’t waste your time like that. Although you could get a telescope and watch Mars, but that doesn’t mean that it will appear like we have two moons. Not even by far. I’m sorry to ruin your dreams, and I’m sorry to ruin mine too.
