What can I do for Labor Day in Connecticut?



Many of us are enjoying a three day weekend thanks to Labor Day. Here are a few happenings in Connecticut this weekend, from festivals to live music, to fresh seafood.

Greek Odyssey Festival- The Greek Odyssey has already started causing a stir for its four day celebration. The Greek Festival will take place September 4-7, 2009 at the Saint Barbara Greek Orthodox Church in Orange, CT. The festival will run from noon-10:00pm Friday-Sunday and noon-8:00pm on Monday. Rain or shine come enjoy the free festival.
Woodstock Fair - The 149th Woodstock Fair is this September 4-7, 2009. The fair is located at the junction of Route 171 & 169 in South Woodstock, CT. The fair will feature exhibits, baked goods, collections, arts and crafts, flowers, midway, entertainment, and animal shows. Admission is $12 for adults, $8 for senior citizens over 60, and children 10 and under are free. Parking will cost you $5. Gates open at 9:00am and close at 11:00pm on Friday-Sunday and 8:00pm on Monday.
Mystic Seaport Fish & Ships Festival - This three day festival takes place at Mystic Seaport in Mystic, CT. The festival will feature steamed lobster, grilled fish, New England clam chowder, and a raw bar from local docks (clams, oysters, and shrimp). The festival begins on Saturday, September 5 - Monday, September 7, 2009. The hours are11:00am-4:00pm on Friday and Saturday and 11:00-3:00pm on Monday. You will also be able to explore the ships and exhibits.
Guitar Under the Stars - The annual end of the summer tradition in Hartford, CT is Guitar Under the Stars. It will take place September 5, 2009 at the Mortensen Riverfront Plaza. Live music will feature Daniel Salazar, performing with the Hartford Festival Orchestra. For more information visit www.ctguitar.org. A variety of musical styles will be played.
Farmington Antiques Weekend - September 5 & 6, 2009 is the annual Farmington Antiques Weekend at the Farmington Polo Grounds located at 152 Town Road, Farmington, CT. Dealers travel from beyond New England to sell jewelry, oil paintings, linens, furniture, fine antiques, garden tools, and Christmas ornaments. Saturday admission is $10 and can be used on both Saturday and Sunday. Sunday admission is $7.
Haddam Neck Fair - If you're looking for exciting contests and shows the Haddam Neck Fair is the place for you. The fair will take place at 26 Quarry Hill Road in Haddam Neck, CT this September 4-7, 2009. The fair will feature tractor pull contests, animal shows, and baking contests. You can also enjoy arts and crafts, photography, stage entertainment, livestock, and baked goods among other things.
